I have been a fan of podcasts for a long time. There’s something about listening to people (however eloquently or not) discuss a topic that resonates with me in a different way to reading a book, blog post or even watching a video. Don’t get me I really value all those other options as well but there’s something special for me with podcasts. With that in mind, here are a couple of Photography podcasts that I love and you might too. This is not an exhaustive list of every good podcast there is, just the two I love.
Street focus is a street photography (well urban photography really including street, street portraits, urban landscape and more). It is hosted by Valerie Jardin and consists of regular interviews and guest appearances. These interviews may involve a photographer sharing their top ten tips, or a discussion about a photography project, or sometimes a question and answers session.
It’s a great way to learn about people’s thoughts on photography, insights into their work and discover new photographers. There are also communities with different assignments to do between episodes as well as just hangout and chat.
On Taking Pictures
On taking pictures is hosted by Bill Wadman and Jeffery Saddoris. This is a more general photography podcast but they also discuss art and the creative process a lot more (as well as the occasional brief tech review).
The show usually discusses a topical issue address creatives and photographers, then moves on wherever the conversation goes before finally ending with a photographer of the week (a great way to discover new and old photographers) and an assignment for their google plus community.
The whole show is really great and can get you thinking a lot, but Jeffrey’s songs for ad breaks are a particular personal highlight.
What photography podcasts do you like?
I have tried a few other podcasts which I thought were okay but these two have stuck with me. They aren’t the only good photography podcasts but I am trying to not overload myself with great content. If you have a favourite podcast, please share it in the comments.
