I’ve been working on a little update to CJW theme which added a couple of new features that I’ve been after for a while. It’s been a great way to develop my skills in Genesis theme development but also to make the site I want rather than defaulting to a stock WordPress theme (not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that).
The newest features include
- a widgetised homepage [I need to customise this a bit]
- moving the nav bars to the top and bottom of the page
- updating a few small details like font sizes etc.
The next steps are refining the homepage, adding a Gravatar to the theme header area (I’ve done this, but there’s a few tiny little details I need to refine), changing the colour scheme a bit more, refining the homepage, and probably some other ideas that I want.
Obviously, these will take some time to work through (in some cases I need to work out exactly what I want) but I thought it was worth updating the theme already as a sign of progress and further encouragement to push forward.
Once I’ve goethe CJW theme into a state I’m happy with, I plan to put it up on Github as a free download with some clever name (like theme awesome). I’d love people to take a look at the code and help me refine it. If you are interested in using this theme on your own site, you’ll need a self hosted WordPress website and the Genesis Framework (which does cost money).
By the way, if you want a WordPress theme but can’t find a good theme out there (on the interwebs) that is “just right” send me a message and we’ll see if I can help you out in some way or another.
