“Congratulations, the whole team can’t wait for you to join.” “nor can I” I replied as I finished initialing and signing my new contract, marking a massive change in career and the end of an eight-year-long adventure. Under an hour earlier I finished teaching my last English as a foreign language class and tidied away the classroom. The previous eight years had seen me change from a nervous, newly qualified teacher living abroad for the first time to an experienced and confident teacher. I loved teaching, but I had to change.
The biggest regrets in our lives are the things we don’t do.
One of the quotes I’ve heard many times is
“In the end, we regret the things we didn’t do, not the things we did do.”
I’m not certain that’s always true, but I’d place a good bet that its true for most things.
That’s why despite enjoying teaching and all the challenges it brings, I knew I had to take this opportunity. Not only was it a better job on paper, I’d certainly regret not taking it.
I’m now a Content writer
So from the 2nd of July, I’m starting my new job as a content writer. That means I create written resources to help promote and equip users of the company’s products. These come in a wide variety of forms including
- blog posts,
- product documentation
- ebooks and guide
- infographics
- and more
Needless to say this is a huge departure from teaching and yet at the same time there will be some very familiar aspects for me. These include proofreading other people’s content and correcting (as well as providing some feedback on why it was amended or changed).
What does this mean for you?
There’s only one obvious impact I can see with regard to this site. I may find it harder to post articles as my day job will now be writing articles. I’m sure this will be the case when I first start out as I’ll be getting used to the lay of the land.
There’s also a good chance it will impact my photography as I used to take photos during the middle of the day after I had got my prep finished and before my classes started. Admittedly, the last half of last year hadn’t really afforded me the time to do so. It is therefore possible that I’ll actually have more time to take photos soon.
The other change that may happen is I may write more about writing. After all, this is my usual trend, I write about what preoccupies my time and my mind and what I want to improve upon.
Thank you
