Pablo Picasso is famous for having said (and then been quoted by Steve Jobs) that “Good artists copy, great artist steal.” Maybe you can already see where Austin Kleon drew inspiration from for the title of his book.
Steal like an Artist is Austin’s follow up book to Show Your Work but this is the first that I’ve read. The book has 10 sections and is only 140 odd pages long, but it is full of Gold. There are both practical ideas to help inspire your creativity and also more philosophical sections on how to steal art so you are inspired by someone not plagiarising them.
Useful for photographers, writers, artists and just anybody who has to do anything the least bit creative. A great quick read, one that I’ll come back to again and again.
